Astronomer Tom Kerss leads Easter stargazing at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands will feature astronomer Tom Kerss during its 2026 Masters of Crafts programme over Easter. Kerss, recognised for his expertise in observational astronomy and astrotourism, previously served as an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich and holds fellowship status with the Royal Astronomical Society.

Kerss has led expeditions centred on phenomena such as the Northern Lights and eclipses, and creates public educational content about astronomy. During his resort residency, he will facilitate multiple activities exploring the night sky visible from the Maldives, where both northern and southern constellations are observable.

Programming includes stargazing sessions, astrophotography workshops, and educational talks. Activities span both land and water-based experiences, featuring telescope observations, open-sky beach sessions, and boat-based stargazing excursions. Workshops will teach participants how to photograph the night sky using professional cameras and smartphones.

The constellation Lepus the Hare, positioned beneath Orion, serves as a central focus. Participants will explore its myths, astronomical significance, and visual representations throughout the property during guided sessions.

Kerss will deliver multiple presentations covering astronomical events, the Moon's cultural and scientific importance, and fundamental astronomy questions. Age-appropriate sessions will introduce younger guests to stargazing fundamentals and constellation roles across various cultures.

The resort will also host seasonal Easter celebrations, including a gala dinner, children's egg hunt, beachside festivities, and a starlight concert dinner combining live music with fine dining.
